Cross Country

PENDLETON - The 3A/2A/1A district cross country meet was held Friday, with Nyssa's girls' and boys' teams each claiming first place.

On the boys' side, Nyssa was followed by Union and Umatilla, while Vale came in second and?Umatilla placed third on the girls' side.

Union junior Kate Stewart was the overall winner for the girls, turning in a time of 20:39.8, a full minute faster than the nearest competitor, sophomore Kassie Anthony of Vale, who ran a 21:40.9. Nyssa senior Nadine Ynigez came in third at 21:58.0.

Morgan Reid and Emily Schmittle of Elgin, and Dana Cardenas of Umatilla, along with Stewart, were individual qualifiers for the state championship meet.

Union senior Tom Sheehy led all boys with a time of 16:42.6. Nyssa had the next two finishers, sophomore Ryan Maag who ran a 16:56.0 and senior Brian Nelson, who turned in a 17:20.9 mark.

Boys individual qualifiers are Obi Harriman and Edgar Lemus of Umatilla, Eddy Ramos of Stanfield, and Joel Vega of Culver.
