Mac High vs UHS Tennis

Boys’ tennis
MAC-HI 8, UMATILLA 0 — In Umatilla, the Mac-Hi boys’ tennis team continued its dominance of Umatilla this year with an 8-1 victory on Tuesday.
The only match Mac-Hi dropped was an 8-1 pro set to No. 2 Christian Mendoza who beat Braden Harwood. Top-ranked Pioneer Alexis Robles defeated Martin Rubio 8-5 and No. 3 Cresencio Beltran defeated Edgar Magana 8-4. The closest singles match was 9-7 between No. 4 Taylor Brown and Umatilla’s Omar Dominguez.
Mac-Hi won all four doubles matches, including two 8-2 bouts at Nos. 1 and 2. Kevin Ochoa and Anthony Martinez defeated Pedro Ortiz and Cole Renier at No. 1 and David Camarena and Luis Alvarez won at No. 2 against Clayton Forshee and Jordan Brown.
Rounding out doubles play, Taylor Brown and Lawrence Timmons won for Mac-Hi at No. 3 8-5 over Daniel Garcialazo and Roberto Moncada, and Beltran and Timmons claimed an 8-4 match at No. 5.
“I like my boys playing the best so that we can get better and they can see what it takes to be strong in this league,” said Umatilla coach Keith Gebers.
Girls’ tennis
UMATILLA 15, MAC-HI 1 — In Umatilla, the Vikings girls’ tennis team claimed an utterly dominant 15-1 victory over Mac-Hi on Tuesday.
Umatilla won all eight singles matches, and by no less than six points in all but two pro sets. Susan Routson defeated Ana Bueno-Salazar 8-1 at No. 1 and Diana Manriquez won 8-2 at No. 2 against Brittney Kelp to lead the Vikings.
Umatilla also had strong showings from its sophomore class with wins by six players. Other singles victors for Umatilla were No. 3 Hannah Seufert (8-4), No. 4 C.J. Evans (8-1), BreAnna Watson (8-2), Norma Chaves (9-8, (7-3)) and Karina Ortiz (8-2).
“I think my team has the potential to be one of the best in the district, but they have to learn to be more aggressive and consistent to do so,” said Vikings coach Keith Gebers.
Watson and Manriques played consistently in an 8-4 No. 1 doubles win over Mac-Hi’s Kirysa Koch and Rachel Smith. Winning at No. 2 were Seufert and Evans 8-5 over Becky Carter and Cat Garza.
Mac-Hi’s only win of the day came from its No. 6 doubles team. Pioneers Dana Torres and Amanda Contreas won that 8-6 against Brandi Carlson and Stephanie Klucas.
