Umatilla Soccer

UMATILLA - The Umatilla Vikings defeated Grant Union Prospectors 8-0 on Saturday, September 19, 2009 in a home men's soccer match. Umatilla dominated with shots on goal and keeping the ball in the Grant Union zone.

The first goal for Umatilla came about ten minutes into the match in a deflection off a player in the middle following a corner kick. The second goal came about twenty minutes into the first half when Yeldar Orduna scored on a drive up the middle. The Vikings scored their third goal of the first half at about the 23 minute mark when Smuel Navarrete scored. Umatilla led 3-0 at the half.

The second half opened with Maximo Bedolla being given a yellow card. The first goal of the second half took place at about three minutes off a shot by Pedro Ortiz. That gave Umatilla the 4-0 lead. Jonathan Mendoza made his second goal of the match about nine minutes in giving the Vikings the 5-0 lead. Bedolla returned to the match and scored the Vikings sixth goal from the corner of the box at about the 21 minute mark. Navarrete scored his second goal at the 30th minute giving the Vikings a 7-0 lead. Andres Madrigal finished off the scoring in the last minute for the Vikings giving Umatilla the 8-0 win.
