Riverside Defeats Umatilla In Volleyball
Riverside won 18-25, 25-21, 25-13 and 25-19

UMATILLA -
The Riverside Pirates defeated the Umatilla vikings in 3A volleyball action on
Thursday, September 23, 2010. Umatilla won the first set 25-18 then Riverside
swept the next three sets 25-21, 25-19 and 25-19.
The first set was a back and forth game until Umatilla went on an eight point run
from 8 to 15 points. That gave Umatilla a commanding lead. The teams then exchanged
scores for the rest of set. Umatilla won the set 25-18.
The second set had Umatilla starting off fast with six points in a row. The teams then
exchanged points until Umatilla led 14-7 about half way through the set. When
Umatilla led 21-19 the Vikings game suddenly went cold. Riverside rattled off six
points in arow to take the 25-21 win.
The teams started off the third set evenly with them tied at 4-4. At that point
Riverside went on a roll scoring five points and taking a 9-4 lead. Umatilla
battled back but for every point the Vikings scored, the Pirates would score two
or three. Riverside led 17-10 then pulled away to a 25-13 win.
In the fourth set Riverside dominated early on leading 13-6. Umatilla battled back
to close within six at 25-19.
