Liberty Defeated Umatilla

UMATILLA - The Umatilla Vikings saw what was a ten point lead evaporate in the last two minutes of the game with Liberty on Tuesday, January 4, 2011. Liberty ended up winning the game 56-53. The Vikings led by 14 at the end of the first period and consistantly by 10 through most of the game.
Andres Sanguino had the hot hand for Umatilla in the first period hitting four three pointers. Sanguino scored 14 total points in the first period. Also scoring in the first was Jorge Campos. Umatilla led 21-7 at the end of the first.
Liberty outscored Umatilla in the second period 14 to 10 but Umatilla maintained the lead. Scoring for Umatilla were Jorge Campos, Juan Ayala, Bridger Hurley and German Campos. Scoring for Liberty came from Jake Siefken, Evan Crawford and Mike Olson. Umatilla led at halftime 31-21.
Both teams scored 15 points each in the third. Uamtilla's scoring came from Forrest McBride, German Campos, Jorge Campos, Bridger Hurley and Andres Sanguino. Scoring for Liberty were Travis Sitton, Bryan Corrigan and Jake Siefken. Umatilla led at the end of the third 46-36.
Liberty outscored Umatilla 20 to 7 in the fourth period. The Vikings only scored five points over a six minute run of the fourth. Liberty scored ten points in the first four minutes of the fourth, cutting Umatilla's lead to just three, 49-46. Liberty then took the lead at 50-49 only for Umatilla to take the 51-50 lead on a layup by German Campos. A three pointer by Evan Crawford of Liberty gave the Patriots the 54-51 lead. Umatilla then began fouling Liberty in the last minute of the game in an attempt to gain scoring opportunities and keep Liberty from slowing down play. Travis Sitton hit his freethrows for Liberty and clinched the 56=53 win for the Patriots.
