UMATILLA - the Umatilla Lady Vikings defeated the Liberty Patriots 59-45 on January 4, 2011. Umatilla led throughout the game from the opening tipoff. Naomi Castanon of the Vikings had a standout game scoring 11 points in the third period. Top scorer for the Vikings was Kassie Kennedy with 15 followed by Dana Cardenas with 14.

Umatilla started off going out to a 15-1 lead in the first six minutes of the first period. Four three pointers by Dana Cardenas fired up the Vikings in the first period. Liberty found their range in the last two minutes scoring six points. Umatilla led 21-7 at the end of the first.

Liberty outscored Umatilla 15 to 10 in the second period. The Vikings played consistantly through the period. Liberty made some gains at the freethrow line with Hannah Croskey hitting four freethrows in a row. Umatilla led at the half 24-22.

Naomi Castanon scored 11 points in the first four minutes of the third period. Also scoring in the third were Dana Cardenas, Ashley Vandever and McKenzie Montez. Umatilla led 46-25 at the end of the third period.

Liberty scored 20 points in the fourth period to 13 for Umatilla. The scoring frenzy for Liberty came from Hannah Croskey, Hannah Berges, Sydney Higgins and Amy Koller. Umatilla had consistant scoring from Leticia Trujillo and McKenzie Montez. Umatilla won the game 59-45.
